Pimsleur german transcript download1/30/2024 ![]() There are numerous sites that offer FREE German news broadcasts delivered at a slow speed. Note carefully that they have an "automatic renewal billing system" that, unless you TURN IT OFF, your credit card will be charged automatically even though, in your mind, you have severed the business relationship. Their videos will destroy your self-confidence in your ability to understand the spoken language and will then give you an opportunity to rebuild it. The real challenge is trying to decode "their" mumbling, dropping of syllables, and fast cadence, even in very elementary speech (we don't do that in English, do we?).įor what it's worth, you could try YABLA TV for a few months. There are numerous FREE videos on YOUTUBE and elsewhere on the Internet that can help you with your "street" German. High quality readers, but something of a mixed offering that is, it can be difficult to tell, from the descriptions, whether these novellas are meant for adults or for children. The quality of the booklets is outstanding. One thing that I really appreciate about this publisher is that they have a series, ERWACHSENE LEKTÜREN, that is (finally) designed for adult readers. Although their A1 Readers are VERY elementary, you might be surprised by the challenging vocabulary. I suggest that you choose any two A1 readers for a start. Some of their readers can be purchased as MP3/PDF downloads. They also offer an excellent series of cultural guides at the A2/B1+ level. They books are low-priced, newsprint versions. They offer Graded Readers with and without audio. While it would most likely be best to work with your local bookstore or an online seller in the U.S.A., you could always order them directly from the publisher. Personally, I find that the "grading" of these readers inconsistent. Some of the texts are written for adolescents whereas others are simplified versions of classic literature dating from the 19th century. Graded Readers with accompanying audio files are great for improving your aural comprehension skills. ![]() Yes, it's a little dated and yes, some of the vocabulary is specific to the diplomatic world, BUT the 50+ hours of drills are unbeatable for locking-in the language. Nonetheless, the combined courses offer a solid 16+ hours of pure German audio that will take you to increasingly challenging levels. The same can be said for Assimil, meiner Meinung nach. Personally, I find this unnecessarily confusing as the notes are correct in what they say, but only if you already know what they're talking about. That is, grammatical issues are presented in a running narrative. However, you will REALLY have to apply yourself! The initial course adopts a teaching method somewhat similar to that used by Assimil. In terms of vocabulary and sentence structure, the combined packages would take you to about B1/B2. The more conventional Linguaphone courses are German COMPLETE and German ADVANCED-TO-EXPERT. The level is probably about A2 at the end of the course. Two nice features are that (a) the course includes a complete glossary and (b) the course includes a mid-point and end-point recapitulation of the dialogues. It operates something like a "radio play" wherein an English-speaking Sales Representative arrives in Germany and is accompanied by a German-speaking native who acts as her guide and teaches her elementary German along the way. Linguaphone offers an all-audio course, German ALL-TALK, that you might consider. Also, they offer "refurbished" courses that are as clean as the originals, again, at about half-price. Hint: They often offer their courses at about half-price, so you should consider either waiting or asking to be put on their mailing list. ![]() is represented by Elite Commerce, their official agent. Also, you will have to improve your understanding of the structure of the language. One of your new challenges will be to increase your vocabulary (active and passive) and, generally speaking, the all-audio courses simply do not contain enough material. However, if my opinion, NONE of them will take you as far as just about any conventional method. Yes, Michel Thomas might teach you a little more vocabulary, as might some other all-audio courses. ![]() I think that you will have pretty well run the gamit of an all-audio courses with Pimsleur. It costs 119$ as an MP3 download from Simon & Schuster. Also, and this is a huge plus, it recapitulates and integrates most of the material that was presented in German I, II, III. Level IV introduces about 300 new words of vocabulary along with new verb tenses, and it places a particular emphasis on the "informal you" conjugations. ![]() In fact, you should consider this as a "must". Last October, Simon & Schuster published Pimsleur German IV which I would highly recommend. If you have finished Pimsleur German I, II, III, and III+, then you have NOT YET completed the full programme. ![]()
